Founded in 1998, St. Augustine's Institute of Theology has been dedicated to providing top-quality education and spiritual formation for over 26 years. Our program has evolved over the years, but our commitment to academic excellence and spiritual growth has remained steadfast.
Our programs are open to all within the Church, whether auditing a course or enrolling as part of a Late Vocations process. The courses are offered online with onsite workshops at parish churches and cathedrals on specific topics.
At St. Augustine's Institute of Theology Seminary, we believe that spiritual formation is essential for effective ministry. We provide a variety of courses and short retreats for students to grow in their relationship with God and develop spiritual discipline. Each participant will assigned to a spiritual director for regular and frequent discussions. The spiritual director will make regular reports to the Board of Examining Chaplains and the parish rector as to the participant's spiritual development.
We are not a degree granting institution! We offer certificate programs in Anglican Studies, Deaconess Ministry, Diaconal Ministry, and Sacerdotal (Priestly) Ministry. Our mission is to form excellent parish priests and deacons, committed to the life of the Church and the people that we serve. We partner with traditional seminaries for those pursuing a Master of Divinity or Master of Theology degree.
St. Augustine's Institute of Theology is currently endorsed as an option for postulants and others by the Anglican Church in America for use in the following dioceses:
The Anglican Diocese of the Eastern United States
The Diocese of the West
At present there are no course fees at SAIT. The only cost to the student is the cost of any materials (textbooks) that they will utilize for a specific course.
SAIT holds at least two training events per year. These training events have a spiritual retreat format where the student will have one-on-one interaction with a bishop, opportunity to make their confession, and collegiality with their fellow students. These events intended to instruct both the mind and soul of the participant which sets us apart from other programs.
Those seeking admission to SAIT should first contact the office of their diocesan bishop to get a letter of recommendation which specifies which program is of interest. The registrar will email the application to the prospective student. That application and letter of recommendation will be considered by the board and the registrar will contact the student with instructions as to how to take their first course. It is a simplified process and takes only a couple of weeks to enroll.
